The 4017 DPA is an exceptionally lightweight short shotgun microphone, offering very high multidirectionality while maintaining natural DPA clarity. It is designed for a wide range of uses, from camera systems to fixed positions in sports facilities or for perching in news gathering, broadcast and film applications.
By removing unwanted environmental elements from the signal, the 4017 is the ultimate shotgun microphone. It has a balanced off-axis sound and wide dynamic range. Its 210 mm length and weight of only 71 g make the 4017 DPA a compact microphone in size and one of the lightest boom microphones on the market.
The optimization of sound from the sides and back is the result of extensive research and development. Minimising the often non-linear response of a shotgun microphone caused by the lobes on the sides has been a key objective of the 4017. The condenser capsule uses a pre-biased, high-voltage backplate that gives the 4017 DPA a high output level, very low noise floor and low distortion.
The 4017 DPA features two switchable filters on an innovative ring design: a +4dB high boost at 8kHz and a first-order bass rolloff below 300Hz. A permanent third-order high-pass filter at 50 Hz removes unwanted handling and wind noise.
With its remarkable clarity, wide dynamic range and excellent rejection characteristics, the 4017 DPA is equally at home in the studio or in live music recording.
