The Yamaha QL5 mixing console is the condensed version of the Yamaha CL consoles. Inheriting many of the same features as the CLs, including the internal DANTE network protocol, the QLs are an all-in-one solution for medium-scale live audio, corporate events, broadcasting or installations.
A 10-inch touchscreen works in tandem with the intuitive interface with twelve keys and four user-configurable buttons, and rotary knobs for quick changes to settings. Motorized 100mm faders with 1024 step resolution, +10dB to -138dB, ensure smooth and accurate response. Each channel has a mini display above the fader with a color-coded bar showing the channel name, fader settings and selected inserts.
Each channel has a 4-band EQ and dynamics processors (gate, ducking, compressor, expander, de-esser and hard or soft compander). The QL consoles are equipped with 24 VCM (virtual circuit modeling) rack processors. Up to 8 of these processors, including the VCM versions of the Portico 5033 and 5043 EQs and compressors, designed in collaboration with Rupert Neve, can be allocated to the Premium Rack. Other 'Premium Rack' processors include, among others, the U76 studio compressor/limiter, the Opt-2A 60's tube optical compressor, the EQ-1A classic equalizer, the MBC74 multiband compressor. The GEQ Rack holds 8x 31-band GEQs or 16x 15-band Flex15 GEQs. There are 8 slots on the Effect Rack and a library of 54 effect programs such as Yamaha REV-X, Comp 276, Open Deck, Comp 260 and EQ601.
The Dan Dugan automatic vocal system built into the consoles can easily be implemented by inserting up to 16 slices into the processor to automatically benefit from mic gain optimization. This is a great feature for engineers at conferences, plays or live broadcasts. This automatic vocal system reduces feedback and noise by crossfading the gain of the open channels to which the processor is assigned.
The QL5 can be used in conjunction with any Yamaha Rio DANTE interface such as the Rio1608-D, Rio3224-D, Ri8-D and Ro8-D. By using one of these interfaces, the operator can deploy inputs and/or outputs away from the mixing console while retaining full digital control of the signal processing.
